My high hopes of two desks in our little guest room were dashed today by this super fun tool my sweet friend Emily shared with me. If you’re planning a room and do not want to pay for a room planner, look no further. Check out this website and I think you’ll be pleased.
After measuring our guest room and looking up the dimensions of the furniture we’re hoping to buy, this is what we think the lovely little room will look like:
I’m bummed we can’t fit two desks in there but being able to somewhat see what it will look like from this vantage point gets me pretty excited :-)

It was a busy, productive and fun weekend. Mr. Z and I are redoing the guest room to make it more functional. We want it to be a warm and comfortable place for guests but also a home office of sorts. When tax season is over he’ll dive into studying for his CPA exams so our goal is to make a place where he can focus. For me, I just want Mr. Z nearby; even if he’s in the guest room studying at least he’ll be home with me :-)
So, all that to say a few weeks ago my friend Emily emailed a few of us to borrow one of our SUVs for a trip to IKEA. Well I needed to go to IKEA but frankly, I knew I would never go alone so when she needed an SUV I offered mine and said I’d be her partner in crime. Which, good thing as the shelves she bought were HEAVY, I mean SUPER HEAVY there is no way she could have done it alone.
Off to IKEA we went and I am so glad we did. I think I found the perfect bed and desks for the guest room. And bedding as well, woohoo! Now this is all pending Mr. Z’s approval, but I think he’ll go for it
This is the current guest room. The walls appear quite a bit darker in person so in my opinion this picture does not do it justice. I love the color! I tried to steer from white furniture, but I don’t think I can help myself…
I need to confirm measurements, but I think we can put two desks in there (one for the Mr. and one for the Mrs.) and then this perfect day bed with storage underneath. What’s even better is the drawers pull out to make the day bed suitable for two people. Perfect! Storage and a bigger bed—score!
I also spotted this stunning grey duvet/sham set (the one in the middle)—I LOVE grey these days—that I think will look incredible against the walls with splashes of sea glass green and turquoise pillows mixed with lots of white… I could see this day bed turning into my new quiet time space. I can already see myself cozied (pretty sure I just made up that word) up in the day bed with my Bible and coffee. Can’t wait!
After a full day at IKEA I headed to Karyn’s Cooked for dinner with one of my dearest friends before she heads off to Tanzania to love on and care for children in an orphanage and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. So very proud of her!ffee. Can’t wait!
The next day, Mr. Z and I headed to make the most exciting purchase we’ve made to date… A new camera! He suggested we buy a nice camera before we got married and stupid me said we didn’t need it. STUPID. Everyone who knows Mr. Z knows that if he says he’s willing to make a significant purchase I should JUMP on it. Ha! Anyway, it’s our first digital SLR and I’m super geeked about it. Especially since we’re planning some trips in the months to come that I’ll be able to document with it. CANNOT WAIT. Here’s the first pic I took using the new camera.
PS. These pickles are incredible. I had read about them in a cooking magazine months ago and wanted to order them but frankly, forgot. Then the other day I was in Whole Foods and walked right by them. And, they are sooo good! I have a secret super love of pickles. When I was little and came home from middle school and high school I could easily and often did eat an entire jar of pickles as my “snack.” I don’t claim many things, but I do claim to know a good pickle and these are delicious.
