A little trip

Posted by on Jan 21, 2012 in family, photography, travel | 0 comments

I had high hopes of writing a new post today but as is often the case, a few of the items on the to-do list that I thought would take no time, turned into huge timesucks. I was able to download the pictures we took during our recent trip to Arizona. With Mr. Z studying for the CPA and tax season on it’s way we knew we only had a small window of time to get out a town and enjoy one last trip childless. We have family in AZ and thought it would be the perfect time to see them as well as escape into the red rocks of Sedona for a bit. We arrived in Phoenix Thursday night, my sister-in-law and her husband picked us up and we spen the night in their lovely new home. They leant us their car {they’re always super generous and boy are we thankful} and we headed to Sedona Friday morning.

On our way to Sedona Mr. Z drove and I finished reading The Help {talk about a bad road trip companion}. By the time we got to our hotel I was done reading. We checked into the lovely place we were staying and took off for lunch and an afternoon hike. It was so beautiful up there and perfect weather, 60/65 and bright sunshine. Hiking at 5,000 feet wasn’t the easiest at almost 6 months pregnant and so I didn’t push it, but we still really enjoyed it. Afterwards we wondered through town and later had dinner. It was a quick and simple trip, but worthwhile and wonderful :-)

Saturday morning we headed back to Phoenix and spent the rest of the weekend with family. It was such a blessing to have time alone as well as time with family. Two hikes, plenty of good food and great company in beautiful weather–it doesn’t get much better than that.

Our view while eating lunch, not bad ;-)

Gearing up for our hike {we did not attempt to climb that rock-ha!}

Enjoying the outdoors.

Had to check out the cowboy boots while we were there!

Mr. Z and his brothers, quite the handsome group ;-)

By far one of the cutest little boys we know!

Summer is coming to an end and my heart is sad. My dream is to live in a place where the seasons aren’t so manic. In Chicago winter lasts about nine months of the year and it’s grey and cloudy for most of those months. In an effort to enjoy our last summer weekend we’re going on an adventure. College football starts this weekend and pending which Big Ten school you went, we might be heading into enemy territory. S’mores, campfires, beaches and biking. Hoping to enjoy God’s country (after an 18-mile run)!

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. Psalm 8: 3-5

Snapshots of Kiawah

It’s a crazy busy time in the office and when I’m at home I’ve been savoring every moment with Mr. Z before he dives into intense study mode for the next two months. In between work assignments, social obligations and ministry commitments we managed to squeeze in a few days with my side of the family in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. I’ll be blogging, Lord willing, in the days to come about the blessing of family. It was such a wonderful time with them :-) Here are a few snap shots I thought I’d share.

California Dreaming

Mr. Z and I took a long awaited vacation to beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. It was some much needed alone time after a long tax season. Sun, warm temps, with the exception of our hike on the Channel Islands where the wind could literally blow us off our feet, and time together with no distractions. Such a huge blessing. Not to mention I was super excited to play with our new camera and Mr. Z was such a trooper as he didn’t complain once as I kept stopping us to take pictures. We got some neat ones thought :-)
