I think I said I would write this post a looong time ago, but alas, life with a newborn took over and this was pushed to the back seat. Not to mention that our bedrooms are in the basement so I have a limited window of time where the sunlight streams in and of course I would remember this post when it was too late to get good pics {some women get “pregnancy brain” — I have “mom-brain”}.
This past Saturday morning while my men slept I was able to get these shots. Truth be told, I really didn’t feel the nursery was complete until sweet Will’s newborn hospital pics arrived and I could place one in the scripture frame I got a while ago. So here’s his little room that he has yet to spend the night in ;-)
One significant lesson I learned in this process {and a pretty obvious one}: MEASURE before you buy. Oops! You’ll see my “creative” way of using the space that needed to fit more furniture than the room was really able to handle.
Also, I really HATE painting so I based the color scheme off the existing wall color and the fact that we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl. I felt like gender neutral really played in our favor for decorating this room.
We have two bedrooms in our condo so it was important to have a bed in the nursery for guests. In this case we also raised the bed for a trundle to scoot under it.
I tried to stick with gray, white and shades of aqua, turquoise and sea glass green for our color scheme. I also LOVE white so this color scheme was perfectly white friendly :-)
One of my two most favorite pieces in the nursery. The baby pics on the left are Will’s only living great-grandparents, my parents, then me, then Mr. Z and then Grandma and Grandpa Z. I am so thankful to have these pics!
A little close-up of the pillows. I got them at Home Goods and TJ Maxx. I thought they looked as though this I-can’t-sew-a-thing gal actually made them. Love it :-)
We used this birdcage for cards at our wedding and for the longest time I couldn’t find a place to display it. I think it fits just perfectly in this space. I also love that there is a little piece of the day God made us a family in our little one’s room.
I thought gray was the perfect gender-neutral color and when I found the crib bedding I was pretty excited. We’ll have to remove most, if not all the items above the crib when he gets bigger and can stand, but for now I think they look pretty.
My other most favorite item is this picture frame from a blogger I follow. She and her husband are photographers and have an online shop that sells these frames with your scripture of choice. This frame contains the scripture I prayed over Will while I was pregnant. Love it!
So this lovely little thing was supposed to go in the closet but thanks to my measuring skills {or lack there of} it is “hiding” behind the crib. It’ pretty handy to be able to see the contents though.
My “creative” space for the changing table/dresser. We removed the doors from the closet, added a curtain rod and hung simple white curtains. I found these great rope tiebacks on Etsy as well as the alphabet decals. As I mentioned, I hate painting so these decals were the perfect solution to cover up the off-white closet walls. Aren’t they cute?
A little close-up.
So there you have it, the little space for our sweet Will. It was my first big project in a long time and I loved every moment of it. Huge shout out to my mom, dad and husband as I was on bed rest when they helped make my vision a reality. My mom would take her iPhone downstairs and we would Face Time to see if things were looking how I envisioned them. Thank you Apple!
Looks amazing!!!! What a sweet nursery. Such a blessed boy.
